The Hort's New York Flower Show 2012
Snapshots of the fashion-inspired centerpieces at the 2012 New York Flower Show Dinner Dance, reflecting this year's theme "Couture en Fleur."
It's the season for flower shows across the country and yesterday, I stopped by the New York Flower Show for a preview of the extravagant centerpieces created for the annual dinner dance, which benefits The Hort (The Horticultural Society of New York). The Hort's Flower Show began in 1916 and by the end of the 1990s, it was no longer a full-scale flower show and now continues as part of the annual dinner dance.
This year's theme was "Couture en Fleur" and fashion-inspired centerpieces were created by 30 of New York's florists. The floral designers cited sources as diverse as Cirque de Soleil, Alexander McQueen, and 1920s Paris to create their tables.

This table, by Zak Events, won Best in Show, combining navy pin-stripe fabric, with yellow belts, and a centerpiece of yellow parrot tulips, double daffodils, orchids, ranunculus, calla lilies, and roses. It won for the table's careful unity, including the matte yellow paint that brought together everything from the chairs to the picture frames.

A hens and chicks succulent forms a pretty brooch in the middle of this ranunculus-covered clutch, also by Renny and Reed.
Laura Clare, Floral Design & Event Decor, decorated a long table with throne-like chairs at either end and two dramatic models on the table, including this version with an air plant hat.
Laura Clare's other mannequin had more of a tropical feel, with mossy hair and her gerbera daisy skirt.
A 6-foot tall mannequin, clothed in red carnations, was created by Tantawan Bloom.
Flower School New York, whose table was sponsored by Jo Malone, had a more simple centerpiece, decorated with stunning tree peonies.
Fleurs Bella's mannequin is clothed in a blanket of moss, while moss and stone placemats decorate the table below.
Purple anemones, yellow tulips, pink roses, green hydrangeas, and sparkly butterflies formed the centerpiece on a table designed by Flowers by Daye.
Giant scissors, spools of thread (made of flowers, of course), and sprays of cascading blooms were designed by ALARIC Flower Design to fit the theme.
