A vertical green wall frames Hotel Modera’s courtyard edge. At its base a contemplative garden composed of in-grade plantings, precast pavers and benches serves as a viewing garden for visitors in the hotel rooms above.

Hotel guests gather around custom weathered steel fire pits set within a field of decomposed stone. Moveable furniture allows flexibility in seating arrangements for large or small groups.

The hotel courtyard also accommodates an outdoor dining area for the adjacent restaurant, Nel Centro. The dining area is defined by a low screen of meranti wood mounted on a painted steel frame.

The Lake Oswego Green Street is a composed of a quarter mile of sinuous sidewalks and rain gardens that treat the street’s stormwater runoff in a residential neighborhood.
The three main vehicular entries to the green street are marked with geometric stone stormwater detention facilities that are planted with native plant species.

A new memorial garden is planned in Portland, Oregon’s Lone Fir Cemetery for early Chinese workers as well as pioneer asylum patients. The forgotten history of both groups will be expressed in a series of garden spaces including interpretive art.

A curved pathway bordered by wildflowers leads to a Chinese funerary burner, memorial pine tree and stone sculpture. These memorial features are framed by a stone and wood trellis inspired by the historic architecture of the cemetery.

Block 47 is a temporary urban garden on a site that will eventually become a commercial development. A stone mound planted with sumac trees is a focal element within the surrounding gravel and grass panels.

This roof garden is composed of a mix of sedums, perennials and lawn growing in a six-inch layer of soil, flanked by deeper planters containing shrubs and ornamental grasses. The garden is set within a field of concrete unit pavers.

“Illumoonata”, a fiberglass life-size cow painted copper, covered with thousands of plexiglass rods and lit from within, was our entry for Kows for Kids on Parade, a city-wide event that raised $2 million for homeless youth services.
