Visit 3 Exceptional Gardens of Orlando, Florida
Garden Design's self-guided day trip in Central Florida
Centrally located within the state of Florida, Orlando is the perfect jumping off point for any number of adventures; Disney World, Universal Studios, Cape Canaveral, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Gulf of Mexico are all within a short drive.
When you’re ready for a break from theme parks and sandcastles, our local garden expert Teresa Watkins has a fun day trip mapped out for you, exploring three of her favorite gardens. All are within a short distance of each other, and she suggests that if you are a confident cyclist, you may even prefer to use the bike trails and leave the car at home.
Begin your day at Leu Gardens, a 50-acre botanical oasis where you can enjoy the entire morning exploring the plant collections and themed gardens. From here, it is less than 4 miles to Central Park, which Teresa describes as “very New York-ish!” Stroll down Park Avenue, have lunch, explore the park highlights, enjoy people watching, and listen to the buskers. The final stop of the day is at Mead Botanical Gardens. Here you can experience walking through a swamp and follow William Bartram’s Trail while learning more about native Floridian ecosystems.
