Over 70 years ago, industrial designer Russel Wright (1904 - 1976) began to transform this abandoned quarry and surrounding hillside into the extraordinary landscape you will enjoy today. Listed as a National Historic Landmark, Manitoga is one of only a few mid-century modern homes which together with its original landscape is open to the public.

Just seven minutes yet a world away, this grand, neoclassical home is perhaps as much loved for its sweeping views overlooking Constitution Marsh as it is for the fine interior displays of art and furniture from the Federal Period. Yet the varied landscapes which make up this country estate will truly delight any garden lover. From an herb garden and Orangery, to a formal rose garden, woodland trails, and dramatic tree-lined driveways this is a landscape that exudes the elegance of a bygone era.

Frank Cabot, founder of The Garden Conservancy began developing this legacy in the mid-1980s with the mission statement “to inspire gardeners to explore the infinite variety of the plant kingdom and to encourage a joyful willingness to experiment in the garden.”
